Another Space-Saving Storage Bed

The most popular posts on this blog are about the Moddi Murphy Bed and the awesome wooden contraption built by a Brooklyn couple that houses a bed, loft and couch.  Apparently we all have a longing for our beds to be useful for more than just sleeping!

Which is why I'm here today with another Ikea-inspired bed.  This one takes complete use of the space under your bed by nesting two twin-sized Alsarp beds (which already lift) inside a king Malm frame.  The hacker made the bed on her own in one afternoon so it's definitely not outside the realm of possibility, even for a lazy-DIYer like me!

From Ikea to Mykea

Ever gone to someone's house only to find what apears to be an off-site Ikea display room?  It's like they went in and asked for one of everything!  Now don't get me wrong, I love Ikea (still mourning the discontinued Kramfors sectional), but like everything else, it's better in moderation.

Are you or your friends suffering from an Ikea overdose?  Don't worry, there is help.  Mykea offers decals custom-made for Ikea furniture!  In just a few short minutes, you can transform your dressers, beds, and tables into original works of art.  Mykea's website makes it simple: select which item you'd like to customize, choose your decal, and order.  Each print arrives cut into the exact dimensions for your furniture.  There are several amazing designs to choose from, but if you really want a double dose of awesome, upload your own picture or design and have it turned into a decal.

Apt528 Tip: if price is a factor, buy your furniture from Ikea's as-is section or from craigslist.  You'll find great pieces for just a fraction of the already low prices, leaving you plenty of money to buy the decal of your dreams!

The Weekender: A Little Rock and Roll

This project from Ikea Hacker blew me away.  You'd never guess that the guitars below started out as Ikea Numerar countertops...it's crazy!  According to Scott, it took him 6 months of working on the guitars off and on.  The way I see it, if I start now, I can make Mr. Design Girl a bass by Christmas!  Ha, if only I was that motivated...

The Weekender: Stylish Recycling

Ikea Hacker has a great post for those looking for a stylish trash or recycling solution.  Not only does this hack seamlessly blend in with the rest of the kitchen, but it's also easy to do!  They cut a hole in both the cabinet and the counter and used wodden plates as lids.  Love it!

I've Rebounded!

I finally found a sectional to replace my beloved discontinued Ikea Kramfors.  It's the Karlstad, also from Ikea.  This weekend was my first time going to Ikea since getting the sad news about the Kramfors.  I needed to pick up a stool and bookshelf for my workroom.  On our way through the showroom, we passed a living room display with a Karlstad sectional.  It's not as awesome as the Kramfors and I only like a few of the color choices, but it's affordable...under $1000!

Out of all the colors available, my favorite is Ullevi Grey, mostly because I like the fabric.  It's soft and comfy like a warm sweater.  I only wish that fabric came in more colors.  For now, the grey will do...at least I can finally get over the Kramfors.  I"ve rebounded!
